Air Evac Lifeteam to Hold Landing Zone Class for Area First Responders
3.9.2022
The class allows Air Evac Lifeteam to work with area police officers, firefighters and EMS agencies and instruct them on how to interact safety with helicopters.
Air Evac Lifeteam in Greenville will host a Landing Zone and Helicopter Safety class for all Washington County first responders at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29. Randell Brooks, Base Pilot Supervisor for the Air Evac Lifeteam base, said the class will be held at the Washington County Convention Center at 1040 S. Raceway Road in Greenville. Refreshments will be provided to attendees.
“Air Evac Lifeteam crews fly critically ill or injured patients between medical facilities and respond to the scene of an emergency,” Brooks said. “The class gives us an opportunity to work with area police officers, firefighters and EMS agencies and instruct them on how to interact safety with helicopters. We’ll also go over how to select a landing zone site, how to guide the helicopter to the ground, and how to load a patient. Landing Zone classes are important, because we want everyone involved in an emergency response to be safe around the helicopter.”
Brooks added that by demonstrating and explaining how the helicopter operates, Air Evac crews lessen fears and heighten awareness. “This education allows Air Evac crews to make flights directly to the scenes of medical emergencies, decreasing the amount of time it takes for area residents to receive critical, life-saving care.”
The March 29 Landing Zone and Helicopter Safety class is free-of-charge and interested first responders may register for the class by calling Air Evac Program Director Lee Williams at 601.218.7631.
