Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, AirMed International was founded in 2003 by Jeffrey Tolbert, who understood the need for international air ambulance services.
AirMed International, one of the leading air ambulance companies in the world, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. AirMed is honored to celebrate this milestone alongside its dedicated teams and the patients they serve globally.
Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, AirMed International was founded in 2003 by Jeffrey Tolbert. Tolbert, who began his career in the air medical industry transporting organs for transplant patients, founded AirMed after realizing the need for international air ambulance services and membership. Two decades later, AirMed has grown in size and scale with many of Tolbert’s original employees still with the organization. AirMed is also now part of the Global Medical Response family of companies.
“Our 20th anniversary is made even more poignant by the unprecedented challenges our teams have faced in recent years with providing international air medical care during a global pandemic,” said Denise Treadwell, president of AirMed. “I am proud to say that our legacy of outstanding service and unparalleled clinical care continues even despite the uncertainties presented. We are looking forward to the future and continuing to enhance our services through strategic growth, innovation and dedication.”
AirMed employs more than 120 air medical crew members, communications specialists, aviation maintenance technicians and support staff across its base locations in Birmingham, Alabama and San Antonio, Texas. In addition to its two fixed-base locations, AirMed supports a floating fleet in the U.S. of four additional aircraft providing point-to-point air medical transport services as well having international offices in Canada (AirMed360), the United Arab Emirates and Singapore. AirMed also has a membership network that provides worldwide coverage to more than 2.2 million people 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In its 20 years of service, AirMed has received many accolades, including the AAMS Fixed-Wing Provider of the Year Award and Air Ambulance Provider of the Year from the International Travel Insurance Journal.
“To recognize two decades of providing high-quality patient care on a global scale is an honor,” said Brandon Bates, senior director of global strategy and partner relations for AirMed. “The dedication of so many extraordinary people and partners has enabled us to provide lifesaving care to more than 25,000 patients in more than 150 countries worldwide.”
In addition to hosting local anniversary celebrations throughout the year in Birmingham and San Antonio, AirMed recently unveiled its commemorative 20th anniversary logo.
