John Markham
Director of Business Development Air Growth
John Markham embarked on his career path in EMS more than 17 years ago. Following his discharge from the Army, he transitioned to nursing school. After graduation, John gained experience in a level one pediatric intensive care unit and later in the emergency room. However, it was when he witnessed a flight crew in action that he knew his heart was set on becoming part of the EMS world. John soon made the move to southern Illinois and began his journey as a flight nurse with Air Evac Lifeteam.
Throughout his tenure at GMR, John has held various roles within the organization. Starting as a part-time flight nurse, he progressed to become a full-time flight nurse, program director, field development manager, director of business development and special services, and currently serves as the director of business development in air growth. His diverse experiences have allowed him to bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to his current role.
John attributes his success to the nursing process he learned in school - assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation are crucial for problem-solving in healthcare and business. His advice to aspiring EMS workers is to focus on personal and professional growth, explore new opportunities, push boundaries, and have a strong support system. He emphasizes the importance of mental health in the EMS profession. EMS personnel often encounter patients during their most challenging moments. John encourages everyone in the field to not only maintain physical health but also regularly check in on their mental well-being.
John’s dedication to his profession and commitment to self-improvement make him an exceptional asset to our team. We are proud to have him as part of the GMR family and look forward to his continued contributions to our mission of providing care to the world at a moment’s notice.
"EMS is not just a career; it's about making a difference in people's lives. I'm proud to be part of the GMR family, where I've grown and learned to apply my skills for the betterment of my community." John Markham
