Baldwin County is currently experiencing a historic winter weather event that began January 21, 2025, and has received a record breaking nine inches of snow. As freezing temperatures and icy roadways continue to grip the county, concerns about the availability of critical services—such as emergency medical care—remain a top priority for county leadership and residents alike.

MedStar EMS, a Global Medical Response (GMR) company, recognized the potential for continued hazardous conditions. As a leading provider in emergency medical care, GMR has an extensive fleet of ambulances across the nation. When MedStar leadership reached out to other GMR operations seeking EMS vehicles equipped to navigate the treacherous road conditions, a 4x4 ambulance, and additional cold weather equipment was immediately dispatched from Tennessee. These reinforcements enabled MedStar EMS to equip multiple ambulances with the necessary gear to navigate treacherous road conditions, ensuring they can reach patients experiencing life or death emergencies.

“Our crews are ready at a moment’s notice, and we have a wealth of resources available to us. Having the ability to contact other GMR operations for necessary equipment for us to continue responding to emergency calls is a testament to the capabilities Medstar EMS is able to provide to the local community,” said Dwayne Tullos, regional director for GMR. “Our team’s preemptive actions show that even in the face of adversity, they can adapt, innovate, and overcome to provide critical emergency medical care when it matters most.”

The Medstar AirCare aircraft is also in service in Baldwin County and is ready to respond to any critical care emergencies requiring expedited transport to a hospital.

With roads still having ice and snow present, MedStar EMS cautions residents of Baldwin County to avoid unnecessary travel. Medstar EMS is available to discuss ways residents can continue to protect themselves against the inclement winter weather.
