GMR Mobilizes First Responders, Ambulances, Air Medical Aircraft and more as Hurricane Debby Makes Landfall

As part of American Medical Response's (AMR) FEMA contract, GMR is deploying ground, air and medical transportation assets to help coastal communities in Debby’s path.

Global Medical Response (GMR) has deployed hundreds of emergency medical first responders, ambulances, paratransit vehicles and air medical helicopters as Hurricane Debby makes landfall in Florida. This mobilization is in response to the federal government's request to American Medical Response (AMR) for emergency medical services (EMS) aid as part of its contract with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). AMR’s Florida operations will also provide ambulances and personnel under the State of Florida Task Force’s deployment.

“Our mission is providing care to the world at a moment’s notice, and we are proud that our compassionate, expert medical teams will be on hand to care for Americans who have or may be impacted by Hurricane Debby,” said Nick Loporcaro, president and chief executive officer for AMR’s parent company, Global Medical Response. “As emergency medical professionals, our team members often provide care for people on their worst days, so this deployment is a natural extension of GMR’s expertise across the country.”

Upon arrival in impacted states, GMR teams will provide services as directed. All deployed teams are continuously monitored and dispatched via GMR’s National Command Center (NATCOM), located in Lewisville, and will remain activated in impacted areas for as long as GMR’s assistance is required.

“While we never hope for a disaster, we’re proud of how hard we work to be ready to respond,” said Ted Van Horne, chief operating officer for Global Medical Response. “GMR is unique, as we can utilize our size and scale to provide the best care in emergencies big and small. Using innovative technologies recently developed with Carbyne, AT&T FirstNet and other key partners, GMR is best positioned to respond to our nation’s most pressing EMS needs and ensure we stay connected with teams on the ground so we can get to people who need us as quickly as possible and pivot rapidly as things change.”

As the nation's largest provider of EMS and FEMA's prime emergency medical service response provider, AMR has a national agreement with FEMA to provide ground ambulance, air ambulance, paratransit services and non-ambulance EMS personnel to supplement the local, federal and state response to a disaster, an act of terrorism or any public health emergency.
