Guardian Flight Alaska Launches Innovative Online Ordering Solution for Air Medical Transports

9.19.2022

Healthcare providers at select facilities can now request air medical transports with the click of a button.
Guardian Flight today announced that its air medical operations in Alaska have implemented an innovative online ordering solution in partnership with Access2Care.

“With online ordering, we are saving valuable time for healthcare providers, and we are expediting the transport process for patients who are critically ill or injured,” said Jared Sherman, vice president of operations for Guardian Flight.

Guardian Flight is the first air medical program in the nation to launch this technology using a both a fixed-wing and helicopter fleet of aircraft.

The online ordering system, currently in use at Cordova Community Medical Center and South Peninsula Hospital, uses a five-question transport request form that is routed to Guardian Flight’s communications center. When an air medical aircraft has been assigned, healthcare providers can track the aircraft in real-time and monitor its estimated time of arrival, which is continuously updated using aircraft GPS positioning. Requesters can also share access to the flight tracker with physicians at receiving facilities, or even patient family members.

“I am really happy with the online ordering system Guardian Flight has started using,” said Carrie Beach, health unit clerk for South Peninsula Hospital. “It is very helpful to be able to have timestamped documentation of everything that is happening, and to be able to share this information with the parties that need it.”

Guardian Flight is also partnering with Camai Community Health Center to implement the use of the technology at its facility later this year.
