Air medical provider partners with Shasta Regional Medical Center to provide blood to trauma patients.
REACH Air Medical Services (REACH) today announced that it has made another investment to help save lives in Shasta County. The air medical provider has partnered with Shasta Regional Medical Center to start carrying blood products onboard its Redding-based medical helicopter.
Troy Speziale, program director for REACH, said that blood is now available to highly trained REACH clinicians to administer to patients that require aggressive fluid resuscitation after suffering severe blood loss.
“Administering blood products to critically ill or injured patients in the pre-hospital environment helps stabilize them as we complete the important task of safely delivering them to the higher level of medical care they require,” said Speziale.
Speziale also said he is grateful for the partnership formed with Shasta Regional Medical Center to provide access to blood products.
“This is a significant investment by both organizations to provide blood products to our patients,” he said. “This is another example of our shared commitment to providing the highest level of care to our patients and the residents of Shasta County.”
REACH operates a medical helicopter and a medical airplane located at the Redding Municipal Airport. The air medical provider has plans to begin carrying blood products on its medical airplane later in the year.
