Dr. Mark Stavros is the new emergency medical services and transport medical director for AMR South Mississippi.
American Medical Response (AMR) South Mississippi has welcomed Dr. Mark Stavros as their new emergency medical services and transport medical director. In his new role, Dr. Stavros will be responsible for the clinical oversight of the ground medical transportation provider.
“I am excited to be a part of the AMR team, and I look forward to serving the Mississippi Gulf Coast,” said Dr. Stavros. “Together, we will continue to provide excellent, high quality, life-saving care to the community. I am committed to ongoing improvement of patient care by preparing and equipping our teams with education, innovation and medical oversight.”
Dr. Stavros completed his residency in emergency medicine at St. Vincent’s Emergency Medicine Residency Program in Ohio. Following clinical training, he was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base, where he practiced as an emergency physician and served as EMS director and medical director. After his honorable discharge from the United States Air Force, he continued to work as an emergency physician in the panhandle of Florida and Mississippi. Dr. Stavros has served as assistant medical director and currently serves as the emergency department medical director for West Florida Hospital and its associated free-standing emergency departments for the past eight years.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Stavros to AMR South Mississippi,” said Dwayne Tullos, regional director for AMR South MS. “Dr. Stavros has a wealth of experience and an exceptional background in emergency medicine in both the pre-hospital and hospital environments. His experience and depth of skills will help to lead our first responders in delivering timely, high-quality patient care to the communities of Harrison, Hancock and Stone Counties.”
In addition to providing direction to AMR first responders, Dr. Stavros will oversee the clinicians of AMR’s partnering fire agencies in Harrison, Stone and Hancock Counties. “Dr. Stavros is very engaged and hands-on, and we look forward to further strengthening relationships with our partners in care at the local fire agencies and our patients through consistent, quality clinical care under his guidance,” said Dana Thrower, EMS chief, and operations manager for AMR.
