U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means to Hold EMS Hearing at GMR in Texas

House Committee on Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) announced that the Ways and Means Committee will hold a field hearing on Access to Health Care in America: Ensuring Resilient Emergency Medical Care. The hearing will take place Monday, March 18, 2024, at Global Medical Response in Denton, Texas.

“Too many Americans in underserved and rural areas lack sufficient access to emergency care, and too often access and affordability of such care is a challenge even for those living in urban settings. To address these issues, Congress strengthened lifelines for rural communities and protected Americans from surprise bills regardless of where they live through the No Surprises Act. Still, more work is needed to ensure patients’ access to care is protected independent of where they live, work, or raise a family. This includes exploring new models of care delivery, like community paramedicine, and ensuring existing models are moving the needle for underserved communities. That’s why the Ways and Means Committee is focused on helping Americans get health care in their community. This hearing is an opportunity for members of Congress to hear directly from Americans affected by structural and geographic barriers to timely emergency care and what we can do to improve the quality and availability of health care in their community,” said Chairman Smith.
