Ronnie Fleming, Navy Veteran

Regional Director, Air Evac Lifeteam

Ronnie Fleming served 26 years flying helicopters in the United States Navy. Currently, he serves as the Regional Director of Flight Operations for Air Evac Lifeteam in Oklahoma, North Texas and Western Arkansas, managing pilots and aviation-related issues.

Fleming credits the military for his successful transition to a civilian career. “I was trained and experienced in managing large numbers of pilots and people in surrounding environs of military bases, resolving issues and conflicts” he said. “Essentially, that’s what I do now.”

“When I left the military I knew I wanted to be a part of something similar, something intrinsically rewarding,” Fleming added. “Helping save lives with Air Evac was just that and provides its own esprit de corps.”

Areas of Service

In his 26-year career, Fleming served all over the world, including:

  • Europe
  • The Middle East
  • The Mediterranean
  • South America

Rank Achieved

Fleming attained the rank of Captain (06), the senior-most commissioned officer below flag officers (i.e. admirals) in the U.S. Navy. Naval Aviation Captains are commanding officers of:

  • Aircraft carriers
  • Large-deck air-capable amphibious assault ships
  • Carrier Air Wings (CAG)

Why the Navy?

Fleming’s reasoning for joining the Navy was rather unconventional, the decision was based solely on the fact that the Navy allowed beards. However, he wasn’t allowed to grow one in flight school. As luck would have it, the month before he finished flight school, beards were banned in the Navy.
