Traci DeVillier, United States Coast Guard
Executive Assistant, MedExpress Ambulance Service, Opelousas, Louisiana
Traci DeVillier is proud of her family history with the U.S. Armed Forces. “My father and uncles were in the Air Force, and my grandfather was in the Navy,” she says with a hint of deep personal gratification. “But I chose to serve with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) after I met with a recruiter; I just felt this service is what I felt comfortable with.”
DeVillier’s time with the USCG had her stationed in Hawaii for nearly all of the 10 years she was with the service. During that time, she worked at a communications center, where she handled intense projects, including the search, rescue and recovery efforts for an Aloha Airlines plane that went down. DeVillier cherishes her time with the military, saying the experience gave her structure, friendships, mission and a feeling of camaraderie that she will never forget.
What Was the Most Interesting Experience You Had While Serving?
Being on active duty during Desert Storm/Shield. It was such an honor to serve this great country of ours during that effort, even if it was in a small way.
What Do You Do for GMR?
I wear many hats, but in a nutshell, I handle accounts payable, asset management, payroll, facility inspections and maintaining our leases along with many other important duties.
How Did Your Military Training Prepare You for Your Current Role?
It gave me the foundation of my organizational skills. I believe it played a major role in my personal desire to strive for excellence in everything I do. It prepared me well for all the situations and jobs I’ve handled throughout my career journey.
